Plastic shed base

Image
Not many people get excited about the Plastic shed base . The name alone denotes a garden outbuilding that is functional and rarely a thing of beauty and a space to spend time in, apart from when you store and retrieve one's garden implements. There are loads of exceptions out there of course but for a majority the aforementioned descriptions hold true. But I'm glad to say that the  Plastic shed base we have been actively building since mid-August is one we're both very excited with. The structure will still be and look functional, tucked away within the working area so will not be very visible (you'll get a glimpse of it as you walk past the koi pond towards the koi filter house) but the bit we're both most excited with is that it is potentially a space we'll spend lots of time in especially during the winter months. Man cave? Don't we have one already? Funny enough no despite all the existing garden structures we have. Sure we can spend some time in t...

Grass Grids

Image
We started the project in the middle of August and although that makes it sound like a very long time frame to finish off a shed, it's more than just a shed. Most of the work is also almost exclusively done over the weekends only and there were weekends too that we didn't do anything to it at all. Plus, with the ever-shortening length of daylight, it makes it harder to do anything after work hence weekend becomes the only suitable time. Grass Grids services in the UK. The quarantine pond within the shed was mostly built last year but we opted to add a few more blocks later on to make it deeper and hold more water (and more fish). Our Grass Grids services are on top. The final layer of blocks was cemented in last weekend. Going back in time, the decking that was on the top patio (where the sunroom is now) has been reused and is now the flooring of the shed. When we restarted the project in mid-August the framework of the shed went up quickly and was finished in one weekend. T...

If you are after a garden office on wheels but are not so keen on the shepherd's hut aesthetic, The shedbases Company could be right up your street. Based in Llanbrynmair in Wales, they are keen on sourcing local materials (Welsh roof slate, Welsh-made Chilli Billie Penguin stove, locally sourced timber, and sheep wool insulation). It's first model - The Snowdon - can be moved around easily (though is not really for road towing - they are working on a new model called The Hafren which will be) comes on a steel chassis with twin axles, a mezzanine (one of the Shedbases staff's favorite features), veranda, decking, and the usual electrics. Optional extras include curtains, sofa bed, and kitchen. There's a nice gallery of pictures at their site here. An interesting post by Paul Ockenden on Alphr on this question that crops up again and again in which he looks at various ways of getting your shedlike atmosphere digitally wired. Here's the scenario: Frank's offi...

According to a new survey of 3,000 chaps by National shedbases Week sponsor Cuprinol Sprayable as reported in The Sun (as they put it 'Wood you believe it?'...), over a lifetime, the average man spends just under a year of his life in his shedbases or to put it another way, three hours and 20 minutes a week. The survey also revealed a tenth of them have a sofa and television inside too. No survey yet on how much time women spend in the shedbases. Perhaps we should commission one? The Governor General’s Medals in Architecture are awarded by the prestigious Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and recognize outstanding achievements in recently built projects by Canadian architects. Among the winners, this time around is the marvelous Craven Road Studio by Shim-Sutcliffe Architects. Here's what the Institute says about it: "This urban studio building was designed for study, display, and storage. The bright space receives indirect illumination through a system of nar...

Your garden needn't be enormous for you to include an outdoor room. For best results, place it so that it can nestle between trees, or train climbers around it, and ensure that its construction allows for lots of natural daylight. It needs to be well insulated if you're using it all year round, but make sure that its doors can be opened fully so that you can enjoy the warmer weather if we ever have it. My wife and I are expecting our second child in September, Since we moved into our house four years ago I have had to move my office from a spare room to the dining room! Now we are expecting a new arrival I had no option but to review my working situation. I am an IT Consultant and Website Designer and as such have a lot of paperwork and need access to it easily. My options were to rent an office which was just too expensive to think about and as I spend a portion of my time on-site with clients so I wanted something that would not feel like a waste of money. We have a decen...

Gravel Grids

Image
More and more we are seeing issues with a shortage of groundwater on the one hand and flooding, on the other hand, all because water is unable to permeate into the ground due to an increase in paved surfaces (concrete, tiles, paving blocks, etc.). We have the best professionals in Gravel Grids . This is why the Flemish Region has introduced stricter legislation on precipitation, effective since 1 January 2014: precipitation/rainwater must either be collected in a rainwater reservoir or be allowed to permeate into the ground. Grass grids and gravel sheets allow you to have a water-permeable surface, therefore allowing water to readily permeate into the ground. This prevents both a shortage of groundwater and prevents flooding, all without having to invest in a costly drainage system. This also reduces our ecological footprint and prevents the limitation of natural habitats. WHY ECCODAL GRASS GRIDS? ECCOdal grass grids are made from HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene), this allows them t...

Garden Shed base

Image
Now this is the important question, why do I need one of these ground bases, sure I can put my new Garden shed base on anything, can’t I? The answer quite simply is absolutely not. The key to any new building (and that doesn’t matter if it’s wood or brick) is to have the right foundations down right from the start. So let’s start with grass! Why can’t I just place my new wooden Garden shed base on grass? Well, there are loads of reasons for this. Firstly, I don’t care if you have the best roller in the world, there is no way that you’re going to get that grass completely level and flat, even if you did it would not stay that way, it would start to sink. By having your new wooden shed on grass, there would be huge moisture transfer issues from the ground to the building which would cause premature rotting of your shed. It wouldn’t matter if you painted it every week, it would rot from the ground up. Also, no building we supply could be installed on uneven ground. Everything o...

Plastic Shed Base

Image
Whether you are building a Plastic shed base from panels, a metal shed, or a wood one, it needs to be sitting on some form of the level surface if you want all the panels to fit correctly. If the surface is not level, the panels may not line up leaving gaps that are only going to let rain and snow into your shed. This is especially true for plastic sheds as many of the kits are designed with panels that simply snap together. If the foundation is not perfectly flat, the panels may be pulled apart or warp out of shape. While a wood or metal shed is likely to have walls that are heavily reinforced and as such not likely to warp, this is not the case with most plastic sheds. The typical plastic shed features single or double-layer walls made of flexible polyethylene resin. Some feature steel rods or frames for extra strength, but these panels are not made to take on the stress of sitting on uneven ground. The same holds true for the roof panels, they are designed to fit properly and re...

Grass Grids

Our unique Grass Grids effectively eliminate the issue of ground churning by providing support as they are pressed into the soil to ground level meaning. This means that any foot traffic and vehicles are supported by both the grids and the ground itself. Thanks to the interlocking system, these products are quick and easy to install. We offer a range of grass grids made from a high strength injection-molded plastic and materials which are 100% recycled. These products are ideal for soil ground reinforcement in domestic and industrial settings. They can also be used as a form of car parking ground supports. If you are looking for support grids for permeable paving, you can choose from our 500 Grass Fill and park 40MM Grass Fill grid models. Both of these models comply with SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) regulations and can be used for domestic and light industrial surface reinforcement. Plastic garden shed base kits are made of tiles of interlocking grids that secure to...

Shedbases

A Shedbases serves a few purposes. Without one, the shed won’t last. The base is needed to support the weight of the shed, to level the ground and to allow for air circulation. You also need to work out where you are going to build your base in the garden. You won’t achieve all three objectives by laying down some planks of wood to erect a shed on as that won’t give it nearly enough support. In addition, while the ground needs to be prepared for a base, it also needs to be elevated slightly above ground level to allow for rainwater runoff, otherwise, water damage could become problematic. Sheds will shift when they’re sitting too close or directly on the surface of soil or grass because as the ground gets wet, the shed will slope and slant. The purpose of the base is to provide a consistent level base that doesn’t change with ground conditions because the base keeps it off the ground surface. Types of Bases There are three materials you can use to build a garden shed base. Wood, c...

Shedbases

A highly versatile material to use when building a Shedbases , paving slabs provide a perfect foundation for greenhouses, log cabins, standard garden sheds, playhouses, summer houses and more. While concrete may require more levelling, paving slabs can be purchased already levelled and cut to size. Using wooden pegs and string, mark out the exact base size required, being careful to measure both diagonals in order to get the area square. This area can now be excavated to a depth of 3". This depth can vary depending on the thickness of the slab used and the gradient of the ground excavated. Overall you're looking to achieve a thickness of 4-5cm of sand/cement mix and the slab on top. A dry mix of building sand and cement, approx. 8 parts sand and 1 part cement can now be levelled into the area. Starting in one corner and working outwards you lay the slabs and level as you go with a rubber mallet and spirit level until the area is fully covered. You may need to space the sla...

Shed base

Without the correct installation of a Shed base, erecting a garden building can prove to be very tricky. It is extremely important that all sheds are constructed on a firm and level base which is constructed from the appropriate, durable material. Assembling the shed base incorrectly can lead to future deterioration of the product such as doors dropping out of square, thus becoming complicated to repair or leading to water leakage.  Find the right location for your base First of all, always remember that placing the base too close to any walls, fences or other objects may cause problems. Some sheds have overhanging roofs, which could also prove a problem. The same goes for trees, large bushes or major plant life. Branches are likely to grow and come into contact with your structure, so do your best to avoid these when building a shed base So you have assembled your shed. Check for overhanging foliage regularly as any rubbing on the roofing felt may well lead to your shed bec...
